Physical Education

The students at LPS will gain an appreciation and knowledge of their God-given bodies. Through a wide variety of activities they will develop an appreciation for a physically active and healthful lifestyle.
Physical education is offered to 9th through 11th grade students. The class is taken for two semesters, two periods per week for 0.5 credits.
 
Course Objectives
  • The students will continue to demonstrate proper stewardship of his/her body, the temple of the Holy Spirit.
  • The student will further develop an appreciation for his/her body as he/she experiences life though human movement.
  • The students will further develop an awareness and appreciation for the benefits of a physically safe and active healthful lifestyle.
  • The student will experience success and enjoyment through a variety of athletic activities.
  • The student will further develop an appreciation for lifetime fitness.
  • The student will further develop skills in judging speed distance, force and weight and to coordinate them with body movement.
  • The student will further develop his/her knowledge of techniques, tactics, and the rules of various athletic activities so that these may be used throughout life for wise and constructive use of leisure time when the person is either a participant or spectator.
  • The student will further develop cooperative participation in group and individual activities.
  • The students will further develop an appreciation for good sportsmanship, self-discipline pride persistence and courage.
Fitness and Health and elective that is offered to 11 th and 12 th grade students. The class is taken for one semester, four periods per week.
 
Course Objectives
  • Students will learn to understand and appreciate the wisdom of God as they study His creation. The human body.
  • Students will continue to demonstrate proper stewardship of his/her body, the Temple of the Holy Spirit.
  • Students will further develop an appreciation for his/her body as he/she learns basic principles of health and fitness.
  • Students will use basic principles of health to develop informed approach to mental and physical health.
  • Students will examine lifestyle choices and how they impact overall health and wellness.
  • Students will demonstrate basics of nutrition and fitness as applied to weight management.
  • Students will understand the principals of lifetime fitness and will incorporate fitness activities into a healthy and active lifestyle.
