Academic Testing
ACT
The ACT is a college entrance exam that measures student skill level in english, science, math, reading, and writing (optional). Students in grades 11 and 12 complete the exam as part of the state of Wisconsin's standardized test expectations, for use in the college application process, and merit based financial aid.
The ACT includes three required sections english, math, and reading. The science and writing sectional are optional tests. However, LPS requires students to complete all five sections of the ACT in the spring of 11th grade.
The cost for the ACT taken during 11th grade is incorporated into the tuition. There is no additional cost to families. The ACT is also administered on six national test dates at multiple locations in the United States. Students that want to retake the ACT can register through the myact portal for a test date and location. Students that decide to retake the ACT must pay the registration fee.
PreACT Secure
The PreACT Secure is an online, timed assessment that measures student learning in English, Reading, Math, and Science. Students in grades 9 and 10 complete the test on campus in the spring. The PreACT Secure results provide the following benefits: monitors student's individual academic progress, provides a predicted ACT score, allows for practice in taking a test that is structured and organized like the ACT, and helps LPS assess aspects of their curriculum. Test times for each subject are as follows: English - 35 minutes, Math - 45 minutes, Reading - 40 minutes, and Science - 35 minutes minutes. AP®
Advanced Placement exams are developed by the College Board and administered during two weeks in May. Students receiving a passing grade on the exam may receive college credit. However, it is important to contact your college of choice to see how the school handles AP scores. Policy on AP scores can differ from college to college. It is the responsibility of the student to share AP® results with their college(s) of choice.
Students must register at the beginning of the school year for an AP® exam. It is important to watch for registration announcements so a deadline is not missed. Students can register for any exam of their choosing since completing a course related to the exam is not required by the College Board. However, preparation to do well on the exam will be their responsibility. All students participating in AP® Statistics, Calculus, and Literature and Composition will take the corresponding exam. The PSAT/NMSQT is the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The PSAT is a great primer for the SAT, and the ACT, but it’s more than just a trial run. PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships. Learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT.
SAT
The SAT is a college entrance exam developed by the College Board. It is taken by some students in their Junior or Senior year depending on their college plans. LPS is not a host site for the SAT. Visit the SAT website for information about registration, test dates, and prep.
Wisconsin Forward Exam
The Forward Exam is the Wisconsin state standardized test. All students in grade 10 complete the exam in the spring of the year. Social Studies is the only content area assessed at the high school level. The registration process and cost is covered by Luther Prep.
