Spring Athletic Updates

Luther Prep Track and Field

May 19

Last night Luther Prep Track and Field teams competed at the Midwest Classic Conference Championship meet hosted by Brookfield Academy.  Also competing at this meet were Brookfield Academy, Catholic Central (Burlington), Heritage Christian, Kenosha Christian Life, Kingdom Prep Lutheran, Lake Country Lutheran, Living Word Lutheran, Messmer, Saint Francis, St. John’s NW Military Academy, and University School of Milwaukee.  Our girls finished in 3rd behind Lake Country Lutheran and USM, and our boys won the meet.  Complete results of the meet can be found here.  I’ve also linked a few pictures below taken by one of our assistant coaches.

Girls highlights: Won 1 of 4 relays and had 10 different athletes who achieved a top three finish

Boys highlights: Won 4 open events and 3 of the 4 relays, had 17 different athletes achieve a top 3 finish, and scored points with 25 out of our 28 entries

“We knew going into this meet that both Lake Country and USM would be a tough match up for our girls.  Lake Country is a strong team all around, especially in their sprint division, and USM has those great distance runners we saw in cross country this fall plus a solid balance of talented track and field athletes in other events.  I was very happy with how our girls team competed.  Almost all of our athletes performed as well as they have all season if not better.  This is exactly where we want to be in this final stage of the season.”

“Our boys put together a complete team performance today to claim the conference title.  For many of our returning athletes last year’s one point loss was still in the back of their minds and they did a great job of staying focused in each event and making every opportunity count.  We had at least one event winner in all major divisions of the team – throws, jumps, hurdles, races, and relays – and we scored points with 25 of our 28 entries.  It was awesome to see it all come together!”

The Phoenix begin postseason competition next Tuesday at the WIAA Regional Championship hosted by Waupun High School.

May 26 - Regionals

Tonight Luther Prep competed in the D2 Regional Championship track meet hosted by Waupun High School.  Also competing at this meet were Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Columbus, Mayville, Portage, North Fond du Lac, Waupun, and Laconia.  The boys and girls teams both won the Regional title!  Complete results can be found here

Highlights:

Boys: points with 27/28 entries, won 5 open events and 2 of 4 relays, progressed 18 entries to sectionals

Girls: points with 24/28 entries, won 2 open events and 1 of 4 relays, progressed 15 entries to sectionals

“We could tell from the entries that this was going to be a close meet team-wise.  WLA has some great athletes and is strong in a lot of areas so it was going to take a complete team performance to beat them on both the boys and girls teams.  I was really happy with how our athletes stepped up and executed events across all divisions of the team.  We probably don’t have the firepower to compete as a team at the sectional or state levels, so taking both regional titles was a cool way to wrap up the team portion of the season.  I thought our top performers especially looked great today which is what we needed to see going into Sectionals.  It will be fun to see what our top events can do as we compete for spots at the State Championship!”

The Phoenix compete next on Friday at the Sectionals Championship hosted by McFarland High School.
