have 3 travel days (2 to fly from Chicago to Israel, 1 to fly back to Chicago)
work for 5 days at Khirbet ‘Auja el-Foqa (“ooh-ja el FOH-ka”), a site just north of Jericho,
then tour in Israel for 4 days.
The cost is $3029, which covers airfare, hotels, tips, taxes, all meals during the archaeological dig, and breakfasts and dinners during the four days of touring.
For the archeological dig, Khirbet ‘Auja el-Foqa is a new dig site being run by Dr. Ralph Hawkins, Averett University. Averett partners with Dr. David Ben Shlomo and the Israel Heritage Department, Ariel University. Participants will need to supply their own trowel (Prof. Kock from WLS will give guidance on which to purchase) and work gloves, and sign a waiver stating that they are physically able to participate in an archaeological dig.
For the touring, we are partnering with Imagine Tours & Travel, an experienced and quality tour company, who has arranged hundreds of such trips to Israel for years. You can find out more information about their background at www.ittworld.com.
Confer the tour brochure for further information about payment requirements, dates, and itinerary. Here is a presentation on the trip details, including pictures. Registration forms are available here. You can print the registration form and mail it to Imagine or you can register online with tour code "TKock19.”
After signing up for the trip, you’ll receive information about which trowel to buy, as well as a form to fill out which says you’re physically able to participate in a dig program of this sort. If you do not have a passport, please immediately begin the process of getting one. Contact your local post office for more information, or go to this web address."
