Archaeological Dig 2024

Experience the Holy Land
May 25 through June 6, 2024
Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary will be sponsoring an archaeological dig and tour of Israel in the late spring of 2024. The dates for the trip are May 25 through June 6.

During the first five days of the trip participants will dig at Auja el-Foqa, a site north of Jericho in the Jordan Valley. The site is being excavated by an Israeli archaeologist and an American professor. The seminary took part in digging at the same site back in 2019. It has yielded artifacts from the time of the Israelite monarchy. Participants will spend each night in East Jerusalem and be bussed back and forth to the site each day. In addition to the five days of digging, we will be visiting sites like the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Masada, a boat tour of the Sea of Galilee, Caesarea, and many sites in Jerusalem.

The $790 for the dig portion of the trip is very reasonable and includes all meals, hotel, transportation, and any entrance fees during the week of the dig. That portion must be paid directly to the seminary by March 4th. The payment for the remainder of the trip is paid to the tour company and is spelled out in the brochure.

Dr. Bill Tackmier will be leading the trip. If you are interested, please e-mail him with your questions at
