IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR: COVID-19
Dear LPS Parents,
The following is information about spring athletics at LPS. As I'm sure you are aware this situation concerning COVID-19 is fluid. I will share information with you concerning athletics, as I receive it from the Capitol Conference and the WIAA. This is what I know as of Saturday, March 14.
LPS will not have spring athletic practices or contests while closed for COVID-19. WIAA Bylaws, Art II - Senior High Handbook, page 28 Section 6 states: In the event schedule classes are interrupted or terminated due to infectious/communicable disease by the school district or by local/county/state health agencies, interscholastic athletic practice and competition will be postponed or cancelled.
The first day of practice will be Monday, April 13. Practice times and meals were set by the coaches for the athletes already, as this is the return date from Easter vacation.
After the WIAA mandated days of practice have been completed the first day for competition will be April 21.
I've received multiple questions already concerning LPS having on-line classes starting March 30. Can practices and competition take place since LPS is offering online classes? No. We will not bring students back for athletics if they cannot be on campus for classes.
For those families that sent money to the LPS Business Office for their son/daughter to come back to campus early for softball or baseball. Your money will be refunded.
